Important Notes

  • UE 2.11 features a new web-enabled licensing system for simpler licence management and improved compatibility with newer versions of Windows.  This upgrade will not use existing older style licences installed on your workstation.  To use UE 2.11 and higher, migrating to our UE Portal licencing system is required. For our migration guide, see here.
  • We have made changes to Amazon S3 Model Hosting to improve performance and increase data security.  Users of UE 2.10 will need to update to UE 2.11 by November 24 in order to continue accessing models hosted on the cloud.

UE 2.11 Official Release Features

Early Access Program

With the UE 2.11 Official Release, we began a new early access program.  This is to allow our users to obtain access to the latest Urban Engine features and fixes prior to official release.

Early access releases have been tested internally by our development team and are considered stable, however as they are still release candidates there is the possibility for the occasional bug to occur.  We recommend for critical scenarios that the latest official release is used, however we encourage all users to try the early access releases where possible.

Group administrators can enable early access on the Group Members page.

Panorama Capture

Capture high resolution panoramas which automatically upload to the web for you to share with other users. More information here.

Model Attributes (Beta)

Support for viewing attributes attached to your models, such as GIS or BIM information.  Requires attributes to be configured during model creation. More information here.

Licencing System Upgrade

Changes to the licencing system to simplify licence management, improve Windows 10 compatibility, and tools for users to manage their own licenses. More information here.

Performance Improvements

Performance improvements to background loading and cutting increase frame rate and reduce stutters.

HTTPS Support for Streaming of Amazon S3 Hosted Models

Models hosted on Amazon S3 can now use HTTPS for streaming model data where required.

Proxy Support

Support for Proxy Authentication, enabling the Urban Engine to work with internal proxies / firewalls to enable secure communication with the web.  For information on configuring the Urban Engine to use a proxy server, click here.

Stability Improvements to the Data Cache

Issues resulting in cache corruption have been resolved.  Additionally, if a cache corrupted due to a forced shutdown or workstation reset, it will attempt to detect the issue and clear the cache automatically where necessary.

Changes to Admin Requirements

The Urban Engine no longer requires local admin rights to run, improving compatibility with IT systems.  Admin rights are still required to install the software.

Fixes to Shadow Colour issues

Issues where objects would be rendering with an incorrect shadow colour should now be resolved.
