UE Online License Migration

93 views July 27, 2016 admin 1

Urban Circus is developing a number of new web-enabled features, technologies and products, such as:

  • Web enabled tools such as Panorama Capture, direct from the Urban Engine
  • Self management of Urban Engine licences and users
  • Streaming models from the cloud
  • User collaboration features
  • GPU Virtual Workstation technologies

In order to provide these features to our users, we have developed a new web-based licencing and user management system that ties directly into the Urban Engine and other Urban Circus products.

Starting with UE 2.11, we require our users to migrate their UE licenses to this new web-based licencing system.

Unlike our legacy licensing system, which required Urban Circus to manually generate and provide activation codes for new or moved licenses, the UE Online licensing system allows users to allocate and self-manage their own licenses via a web interface.  This enables users to easily activate or move licenses between workstations, automatically update workstations when licenses are renewed, and automatically handle future licensing upgrades or changes.

The key change for your end users is that they will need to log into the Urban Engine with a username and password.  Users only need to do this once – they can set the UE to remember their username and password for subsequent sessions, so the impact will be minimal.

The new licencing system also requires an internet connection to confirm activation of a workstation, however if an internet connection is not available the software will still function for the currently logged in user for up to 48 hours, provided a licence has been previously retrieved.

Migration Process

Obtain Access Group and Admin account details

Urban Circus will provide you with admin account details for your access group, which will enable you to invite other users and manage your licenses.  This access group will already have the correct number of UE licenses assigned to it.

Deactivate any legacy licences

Open the legacy UE Licence Manager (Click start->Programs->Urban Circus 64->UE Licence Manager – you may need to run this as admin)

Click Deactivate Licence.

Close the UE Licence Manager.

Uninstall Urban Engine 2.10 or earlier

Please uninstall older versions of the Urban Engine to prevent conflicts.

Install Urban Engine 2.11

You will need to install UE 2.11 on each workstation.  Follow these instructions to login and download the correct version.

Add workstations and assign licenses

In order to assign licenses to your workstations, their details need to be added to your access group.  Follow the instructions here to do this.

Invite your Urban Engine users to your access group

In order for your users to access the Urban Engine, they will need an Urban Circus account.  Follow the instructions here to invite your users.

Login to UE 2.11

Launch UE 2.11 and login to activate your license and begin using the Urban Engine.  More information here.

The migration process is now finished.  You can follow the above process to move your licenses to other workstations or control which users can access the Urban Engine.  When licenses are renewed they will be automatically extended.  If you purchase additional licenses, they will appear in your access group ready to be assigned to a workstation.
